WE:Build – Retrofitting Learning Event
Join us for We:Build – a three-day immersive learning experience focused on developing practical skills and knowledge in retrofitting and sustainable construction.
This event is designed to empower women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to explore careers in the built environment, with a focus on inclusive learning, hands-on training, and real-world insights from industry professionals. Hosted by Equate Scotland, in partnership with BE-ST and Changeworks, this event combines online learning, practical workshops, and inspiring discussions to build confidence, competence, and community in the retrofit sector.

- Learn from industry experts about the future of sustainable building and the role of retrofit in tackling climate change.
- Participate in interactive sessions on communication, teamwork, and career development.
- Hear first-hand stories from women working in retrofit and construction, offering inspiration and practical advice.
- Build your professional network with peers, trainers, and employers committed to diversity and sustainability.
Who Can Apply
We welcome applications from:
- Women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Students, recent graduates, or career changers interested in construction, sustainability, or engineering.
- Those with little or no prior experience in construction – enthusiasm and curiosity are what matter most!
The event is completely free of charge to qualified individuals living in Scotland. Depending on your circumstances and available funding, accommodation (up to 2 nights) and travel expenses may also be covered. As spaces are limited, applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by Equate Scotland staff. To support our mission, we welcome applicants from all underrepresented backgrounds, and aim to prioritise women, non-binary individuals, and people from underrepresented gender groups in construction and related fields. Selection will be based on the quality of your responses, your individual circumstances, and a first-come, first-served basis, in line with the purpose and funding of the programme.
We are particularly looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about the event and can clearly articulate how it will benefit them now and in the future.
