Ainslie McLaughlin

Former Director of Procurement and Property at Scottish Government

Ainslie worked for the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland during a lengthy career in central and local government, and has wide ranging experience in major infrastructure planning and delivery, public sector procurement, and major transformation programmes.

As the former Scottish Government’s Director of Procurement and Property from 2015 to 2020 he led the public sector procurement reform programme in Scotland to use the collective power of the Scottish public sector’s £12 billion annual procurement spend to deliver greater efficiency and value for money, promote innovation, and support sustainable economic growth . 

He was Director of Major Infrastructure with Transport Scotland from 2007 to 2015 where he was responsible for the delivery of the largest investment programme in transport infrastructure in Scotland in a generation, including the completion of the motorway network in and around Glasgow, the Aberdeen Western Peripheral, and the Queensferry Crossing.

Ainslie is a civil engineer by profession, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and holds an MBA from the University of Edinburgh.
