Dr Michael Tong

Dr Michael Tong is the Head of the Department of Construction & Surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University, overseeing the education of over 1200 undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. He has a keen interest in construction innovation, digital transformation, productivity, project management, and supply chain management. Dr Tong is actively involved in supervising undergraduate, master's, and PhD students, and conducts industry-focused research in collaboration with forward-looking organizations.

Dr Tong's most recent research project was as project lead for the Built Environment Futures Reports, a collaboration with CSIC, Robertson Group, Autodesk, and Scottish Enterprise. The project was tasked with identifying and highlighting emerging technology trends within the construction industry. As the lead, Dr Tong worked to provide construction organizations with a simple four-step approach to engage with the future in the short, medium, and long term.
