T1C collaborators Morrison Construction, Kier Construction, Balfour Beatty, Robertsons and Morgan Sindall, their supply chains and BE-ST, has built a box in BE-ST’s factory, aptly called the Tardis as there is more to it than meets the eye. 

Based in Aberdeenshire, Ross and Clare founded Coldwells Build in 2016. Now six years later they are one of the few certified Passivhaus contractors in Scotland after gaining accreditation through BE-ST’s Low Carbon Learning programme.

BE-ST trained a number of key players – the contractor and operatives – on the flagship Scottish development. The Architect/Passivhaus Designer also joined in with the site team for the practical aspects of BE-ST’s training days.

Low Carbon Learning initially began as Scotland’s first National Passivhaus training programme.

The Scottish Government aims to cut Carbon emissions by 42% by 2020 with improved home energy efficiency moving towards Passivhaus standard, in line with Northern Europe forms a key part of this. 

The GALE centre in Gairloch didn’t start out as a Passivhaus design – but it ended up as one.

In 2016 housebuilder Dandara was awarded a BE-ST grant to fund research into whether volume housebuilders could design and build to Passivhaus standard using a Scottish supply chain.
